Approaches to the Evaluation and Treatment of Concussion: A Panel Discussion

DESCRIPTION

Concussions occur in diverse settings to disparate populations, including during sports, military service, and to children. The approach to the evaluation and treatment of concussion may differ. This panel, which includes experts from a variety of backgrounds, will discuss case presentations to compare and contrast approaches to the evaluation and treatment of concussion. Such factors as forces necessary to sustain a concussion, the role of pre-concussion testing, the physical examination, effort testing, and emotional reactions surrounding the injury will be discussed.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Recognize the value of different perspectives on assessment: pre-concussion testing, physical examination, anxiety and mood, and effort testing.
  • Recognize the forces necessary to sustain a concussion.
  • Recognize the differential effects of context on assessment: sports, military, pediatric populations.
