Barry Willer

Barry Willer is a Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the State University of New York at Buffalo. He has spent more than 30 years studying brain injury and is the principle author of the Community Integration Questionnaire and the Whatever it Takes Model. He was the first director of the Rehabilitation Research and Training Center on Community Integration and was a leader in the development of the TBI Model Systems Data Base. He has over 150 publications and three books and his work has been cited more than 3000 times. He was the 2012 recipient of the Research Award from the North American Brain Injury Society.

In more recent years, Dr. Willer has been studying concussion, particularly sports related concussion. He was part of a team that created the first return to play guidelines following concussion for the International Olympics (2000). He was a contributor to the Berlin Consensus Conference on Concussion held on October, 2016.

Dr. Willer and his colleague Dr. John Leddy have been leaders in the research on the physiological aspects of concussion. Their research has been the primary impetus for proactive approaches in the treatment of concussion and post concussion syndrome. His research and educational activities have taken him all over the world to assist other professionals and programs wishing to assess and treat concussion, using evidence based physiological methods.
