Biography
Dr. Bedell is Associate Professor, Tufts University—Department of Occupational Therapy. His research involves development of measures and interventions focused on activity and participation outcomes of children and youth with acquired brain injuries and other diagnoses. He is the primary author of the Child and Adolescent Scale of Participation (CASP) and Child and Adolescent Scale of Environment (CASE) and co-author of the Participation and Environment Measure for Children and Youth (PEM-CY, Coster, Law, & Bedell, 2011) and Young Child’s Participation and Environment Measure (YC-PEM, Khetani, Coster, Law & Bedell, 2013) He consults with colleagues and presents worldwide on conceptual and methodological considerations for measuring participation using approaches that are consistent with the goals of the child and family and specific purposes of the research and intervention program. At the Congress, he will be present on Social Participation And Navigation (SPAN): An app-based coaching intervention to promote social participation of teenagers with traumatic/acquired brain injuries (he is Co-Principal Investigator with Dr. Shari Wade). Dr. Bedell is also International Collaborating Researcher with the CanChild Centre for Childhood Disability at McMaster University and was one of the developers of the Participation Knowledge Hub (spearheaded by Dr. Mary Law) that provides information resources to a wide range of consumers. He is also collaborating with Dr. Mary Khetani (PI) and other CanChild occupational therapy colleagues to develop a web-based mobile friendly intervention to assist families with setting goals and developing strategies to promote their child’s participation in activities that are important to the child and family.
